Build a territoryCommission-led sales work for people who would rather own the result than be managed toward it.
We are looking for self-directed sales professionals to work with the municipalities, schools, arenas, care facilities and processing plants across Western Canada that keep asking for a supplier who actually shows up.
01 — The roleCommission-led, with real independence
This is not a scripted phone job and it is not a desk job. You plan your own week, drive your own route, and build a book of business out of repeat customers who reorder because the last order worked.
A territory salesperson at Chem International is responsible for the whole relationship: finding the account, understanding what the facility actually runs, matching it to the right chemistry, and staying close enough afterward that the reorder is a phone call rather than a tender.
The work is practical. You will spend time in boiler rooms, arena plants, lift stations, kitchens and janitorial closets. You will ask what is failing and why. Product knowledge is learned on the job with support from people who have been doing it for years — we are not looking for someone who already knows the catalogue.
Earnings are commission-based, which means the effort you put into the territory is what determines the return. That structure suits people who want their results to count and does not suit people who want a guaranteed number for a guaranteed effort. We would rather say that plainly at the start.
02 — What you would sellSix programs, all of them consumable
Everything in the catalogue gets used up and reordered. That is the point: the first sale is the hard one, and the ones after it come from having been right the first time.

Product availability, registrations and applications vary by program and jurisdiction. Nothing in this list is a specification — the catalogue and current safety data sheets govern.
03 — Who does well here
The people who last are the ones who follow up
Every account we hold was won by somebody who answered the phone, showed up when they said they would, and did not oversell. That is the whole method. If you are looking for a territory you can run like it is your own business, the fit is good. If you want a script and a lead list, it is not.
You earn trust slowly
Operators, plant managers and procurement officers have been sold to before. The ones who buy again are the ones who were told the truth about what a product would and would not do.
You run your own week
Nobody builds your route or chases your follow-ups. You decide where the day goes, and you are accountable for what comes of it.
You are curious about how things work
You do not need a chemistry background. You do need to want to understand why the lagoon smells in April and what the boiler log is telling you.
04 — What backs youIndependent is not the same as alone
Commission work fails when the salesperson is left to invent everything themselves. Here is what already exists behind you before your first call.
§ 01
A catalogue that is already built
Nearly two hundred published products across six programs, manufactured in Edmonton under an ISO 9001:2015-certified quality system. You are not selling a promise or a drop-ship — you are selling stock with a batch record behind it.
§ 02
Technical people who take the call
When a customer asks something you cannot answer, there is someone in the building who can. Water treatment, wastewater and field application questions get routed to people who have run the programs themselves.
§ 03
Documentation that arrives with the order
Safety data sheets, technical data and registration evidence are ready before your customer's auditor asks. You do not have to chase paperwork to close a public-sector account.
§ 04
Purchasing routes into the public sector
Chem International is an awarded supplier under a Kinetic GPO standing offer for water treatment chemicals, supplies and services. For eligible public-sector buyers, that removes the tender from the conversation — which changes what a first order costs you in time.
§ 05
Thirty-seven years of reference accounts
You are not introducing an unknown company. Municipal and institutional accounts across Western Canada have been reordering for decades, and a call to a neighbouring town is often the fastest way into a new one.
§ 06
Customer service and logistics behind the order
Order entry, freight coordination and delivery follow-through are handled by internal staff. Your job is the customer relationship, not the shipping desk.
05 — Where you would workThe accounts larger suppliers drive past
Much of our business is in places that are too small to interest a national distributor and too important to go without. That is the territory, and it is why responsiveness wins here.
Towns and villagesPublic works departments running their own water, wastewater and building maintenance with a small crew and no chemist.
Arenas and recreationIce plants, glycol loops, change rooms and concessions — seasonal, high-traffic, and unforgiving when something fails mid-season.
Schools and care facilitiesBuildings where disinfection is documented and inspected, and where the wrong product is an audit finding.
Processors and industrial sitesFood plants, shops and remote operations that need sanitation and heavy-duty cleaning with the registrations to match.
Territory boundaries and travel expectations depend on the position and the region. Chem International serves British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan from Edmonton.
Tell us the region you know best
Send a short note: your background, the area you would want to work, and why a commission-based, relationship-driven territory interests you. A résumé helps but is not the point — we would rather hear how you would approach the first ninety days.
Compensation structure, benefits eligibility, pension participation, territory boundaries and role details vary by position and are discussed directly with candidates. Chem International is an equal opportunity employer.
