01 — Our standingWhat we hold

Three certifications govern how Chem International manufactures, handles and ships. Each one is auditable, current, and can be evidenced on request for tender submissions and vendor qualification files.

ISO 9001:2015

Quality management system

Certified quality management covering formulation, batching, labelling and order fulfilment. Documented procedures, traceable batch records and corrective-action tracking apply across all seven product programs.

COR

Certificate of Recognition

An audited health and safety management system covering hazard assessment, worker training, inspection and incident investigation. COR status is a standing prequalification requirement for many public-sector and industrial buyers in Alberta.

TDG certified

Transportation of Dangerous Goods

Personnel who classify, package, mark, document and ship regulated products hold current TDG training certificates. Shipping documents, placarding and emergency-response information accompany every regulated consignment.

Scope

Chem International is a division of Aliysha Enterprises Ltd., supplying specialty chemistry to institutional, municipal and industrial operators in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan since 1988. Certificates and audit documentation are released to buyers on request — contact us and we will send them with your vendor package.

02 — FrameworksThe regulations that apply

Specialty chemistry sits under several federal statutes at once. Which apply to a given product depends on what it claims to do — a disinfectant, a microbiocide and a hand sanitizer are each regulated by a different authority under a different act.

§ 01

Hazardous Products ActHazardous Products Regulations · WHMIS

Governs classification, labelling and safety data sheets for hazardous products sold into Canadian workplaces. Every hazardous product we supply is classified under the amended HPR and ships with a compliant supplier label and a sixteen-section SDS.

Current status: the three-year transition to the amended HPR closed on 14 December 2025. Classifications, SDSs and labels must now comply fully with the amended regulations — see section 04.

§ 02

Transportation of Dangerous Goods ActTDG Regulations · Transport Canada

Applies to regulated products moving by road across our BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan service area. Classification, UN numbers, packing groups, packaging selection, marks, labels and shipping documents are prepared by TDG-certified personnel.

Emergency response: CANUTEC, 613-996-6666, appears on shipping documentation for regulated consignments.

§ 03

Food and Drugs ActDrug Identification Number · Health Canada

Hard-surface disinfectants making a germicidal claim are regulated as drugs and must carry a Drug Identification Number issued by Health Canada. A sanitizer claim, a disinfectant claim and a cleaner-only claim are not interchangeable, and buying the wrong one against an infection-control specification is a common audit finding.

DIN-registered products in our line are listed in the register below with their numbers.

§ 04

Pest Control Products ActPMRA registration · PCP number

Microbiocides used to control slime, algae and sulphate-reducing bacteria in cooling towers, closed loops and process water are pest control products. They require registration with the Pest Management Regulatory Agency and carry a PCP number on the label.

Use is restricted to the sites, rates and applications set out on the registered label. Off-label dosing is an enforcement exposure for the operator, not only the supplier.

§ 05

Antiseptic skin productsDrug Identification Number · Health Canada

Antiseptic skin products, including alcohol-based hand sanitizers and antibacterial hand soaps, are regulated as drugs in Canada and require a Drug Identification Number before sale. A moisturizing hand wash making no antimicrobial claim does not — which is why a hand-care line will carry a mix of registered and unregistered products.

Both antimicrobial products in our hand-care program carry DINs, listed in the register below.

§ 06

Provincial occupational health and safetyAlberta · British Columbia · Saskatchewan

Employers must maintain current SDSs, worker education on the products in use, and controls for chemical exposure. Provincial requirements sit on top of the federal supplier obligations under WHMIS — the supplier provides the label and SDS; the employer owns training, storage and exposure control.

§ 07

NSF nonfood compounds registrationVoluntary program · food plant use

Not a regulation, but the accepted evidence standard for chemicals used in food processing environments. Registration categories define where a product may be used: C1 general cleaners for non-food-contact areas, L1 drain and sewer products, K2 electronic-equipment cleaners in meat and poultry plants.

CFIA-inspected plants routinely ask for registration category by product. Our NSF-registered items and their categories are listed below.

03 — RegistrationsProduct registration register

Registration numbers for products in our line that carry them. Filter by issuing authority, or open a product for its full technical record and safety data sheet. Products not listed here are cleaners, degreasers, treatment chemistries and lubricants that make no claim requiring registration.

Registration numbers are reproduced from current product records and supplier documentation. Numbers, categories and permitted uses can change when a formulation or registration is renewed — confirm against the product label and safety data sheet before writing a specification. Where a product sheet is required for a tender, call 1-800-665-7287 and we will supply the current documentation directly.

04 — WHMIS 2025The amended HPR now applies in full

The most consequential change to Canadian hazard communication in a decade closed its transition window in December 2025. If your binders still hold pre-amendment safety data sheets, they are out of date.

Transition ended 14 December 2025

What changed for buyers

Health Canada amended the Hazardous Products Regulations to align with the seventh revised edition of the GHS, with selected elements of the eighth. The amendments came into force in December 2022 with a three-year transition, which ended on 14 December 2025.

All hazardous products must now carry classifications, safety data sheets and labels that comply fully with the amended HPR. During the transition, suppliers could work to either version — but never a mixture of the two. That option is gone.

Chem International supplies amended-HPR safety data sheets for the hazardous products in our line. If you hold an older sheet for a CI product, request the current version and replace it in your station binder.

Key amendments

  • Chemicals Under PressureA new physical hazard class with its own categories and required label elements.
  • Aerosols reclassifiedThe class is renamed from Flammable Aerosols to Aerosols, adding Category 3 for non-flammable aerosols.
  • Flammable gases subdividedCategory 1 splits into 1A and 1B; pyrophoric and chemically unstable gases are addressed within 1A.
  • Safety data sheet contentNew information elements are required, with revisions to Section 9 physical and chemical properties and Section 14 transport information.

05 — DocumentationWhat ships with your order

Audit findings are usually documentation findings. Safety data sheets and technical documentation for every product are available at chemintonline.com, and anything not published can be sent directly.

Safety data sheets

Sixteen-section SDSs prepared to the amended Hazardous Products Regulations, covering classification, first aid, handling, exposure control, transport and regulatory information. Available for download by product.

Open the SDS library

Technical data sheets

Product specifications, dilution guidance, material compatibility and handling limits for specification writing and operator training. Supplied per product on request.

Technical bulletins

Supplier labels

Every hazardous product ships with a compliant supplier label carrying product identifier, pictograms, signal word, hazard and precautionary statements, and supplier identification.

Transport and emergency information

Shipping documents, classification and emergency-response information accompany regulated consignments. CANUTEC, 613-996-6666, is the emergency contact on Chem International safety data sheets.

Certificates of analysis, registration certificates, ISO and COR documentation, and vendor qualification forms are released on request. Tell us what your procurement package requires and we will assemble it.

Need documentation for a tender or audit?

Send us the vendor package, the specification, or the list of products under review. We will return current safety data sheets, registration evidence and certification documentation.
