Company History

Chem International was incorporated on June 8, 1988 and began in a 1,500-square-foot warehouse on Edmonton’s southside, trading as Chemical International under a twin-globe mark.

The founder had spent a decade selling industrial chemicals across Western Canada before starting the company. The first sale was one drum of soap to Denham Ford. The line grew from soaps and cleaners into bioenzyme wastewater chemistry, and the company became the largest supplier of wastewater lagoon chemistry in Western Canada.

Today it serves more than 3,000 clients across British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan from 10770 180 Street NW in west Edmonton.

What We Do

A one-stop source for professional-grade specialty chemicals, formulated and distributed from Edmonton for the people who run Western Canada’s facilities, kitchens, fleets, lagoons and water systems.

Nearly 200 products across six sectors: municipal wastewater, water treatment, commercial sanitation, facility maintenance, food service and industrial remediation. Product programs (CI360™), facility specifications (FacilitySpec) and technical support (CI SupportLab™) turn the catalogue into a working system for each site.

Compliance and Certifications

Chem International operates an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system. Every product ships with a current Safety Data Sheet and technical documentation.

Safety Data Sheets and Technical Data Sheets are maintained in the CI SDS Library and available for every published product. Labels are bilingual English and French. Transport emergencies route to CANUTEC, 24 hours.

Chem International is an awarded supplier to Kinetic GPO for municipal and public-sector purchasing.

Careers

The company was built by sales people who knew their markets, understood the chemistry, and could solve problems on the ground. It still hires that way.
