CI FacilitySpec™2026 Edition · four facility types · 20 operating areas

Facility-type operating standards for the people who run schools, care homes, food plants and arenas — the building divided into zones, the stressor named in each, the CI chemistry and rhythm assigned to it.

The concept

Built around the building, not the catalogue.

Facilities do not fall behind because people stop cleaning. They fall behind when the chemistry does not match the room, the fixture, the machine or the season. CI FacilitySpec™ starts from the other end: it takes a type of building, divides it into the operating zones a crew actually works in, and names the stressor that causes failure in each one.

Every zone then gets the same four things — a written standard that can be checked, a CI chemistry lane matched to the soil and the surface, a rhythm that says when the work lands (during the day, after the last bell, between bookings, between runs, in the summer break), and a symptom-first playbook for the complaints that actually arrive. The product is the last decision, not the first.

Four guides are published in this edition: schools, assisted living, food processing and arenas & rec centres. Each is a complete operating document in its own right, and each can be translated by CI into a site-specific wall-chart packet — zone maps, chemical-lane layouts, dilution charts, schedules and product assignments for the exact building — under an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality system.

Zones, not product listsA school is classrooms, washrooms and floors; an arena is rink-side, wet rooms, spectator areas and a mechanical plant. FacilitySpec™ maps the building the way the crew walks it, and assigns chemistry zone by zone.
Symptom → standard → routeEvery playbook begins with what the operator sees — a tacky rail, a hazy glass, a returning odour — verifies the written standard and the dilution, and only then changes the route. Consistency beats intensity.
A program every shift can runRhythm is part of the specification. Daily routes, weekly focus, scheduled restoration and seasonal transitions are set out so the right work lands in the right window, with the safety guardrails written in.

Schools & Educational Facilities

Schools do not fall behind because custodians stop cleaning. They fall behind when the chemistry does not match the room, the fixture, or the season. FacilitySpec™ for education splits the building into three operating pillars, names the stressor in each, and sets the custodial rhythm around the school day, the last bell and the summer break.

Assisted Living & Care Homes

Assisted living homes do not fail because staff do not care. They fail when the program is too vague, too chemical-heavy in the wrong places, and too light where it actually matters. FacilitySpec™ for care environments sets four operating zones and one program every shift can run — resident rooms, wet rooms, common areas and the support systems behind them.

Food Processing & Food Service

Food plants do not fall behind because people stop cleaning. They fall behind when the chemistry does not match the machine, the zone, or the waste stream. FacilitySpec™ for food processing sets three operating pillars — ware quality, production zones and the waste stream — and fits the program to the production rhythm rather than the other way round.

Arenas & Recreation Centres

Arenas do not fall apart because people stop cleaning. They fall apart when the program does not match the building. FacilitySpec™ for arenas and rec centres sets four operating zones — rink-side, wet zones, spectator areas and the mechanical plant — and runs them on a seasonal rhythm from ice-in to ice-out.
